How to plan the perfect Christmas party

How to plan the perfect Christmas party

Top tips on how to plan your Christmas party from guest lists to music and entertainment.

It may only just be spring, but when planning any group or company Christmas party, with large numbers of people and tastes to consider, it’s never too early to get organised. All too often, things can go wrong… and it’s important to avoid the dreaded dead atmosphere with non-engaged guests.

To ensure that this doesn’t happen to you, here are the top Christmas party tips compiled by Bimla Safka, Director of Smart Live, event management experts who will be hosting immersive Speakeasy-themed parties at retro East London Venue, Troxy.

1. Plan your guest list and/or table plan carefully

The right mix of party guests can make for a fantastic evening. Get it wrong and you will be side stepping each other and trying to avoid awkward silences all night.

2. Theme your Christmas party

Try to think of a fun dressing-up theme. The Great Gatsby still seems to be popular and can be as subtle or as extravagant as you like. Alternatively, encouraging your team to wear ‘a touch of crimson’ allows everyone to take part with minimal effort.

3. Get the music right

The music playlist is important – choose a venue that will be playing the right mix of music that will appeal to all ages and tastes of your group. Bringing your corporate team to a newly-opened, fashionable venue in Shoreditch may seem like a great idea… until the guests feel they are out of place and can’t get involved with the night’s entertainment.

4. Pre-event drinks

Before you leave for your venue, start off the evening with a bit of excitement – bring everyone together for a glass of bubbly to boost everyone’s anticipation for the night ahead.

5. Post-dinner entertainment

Ensure there are things to do after dinner. From entertainment acts to karaoke machines, the night becomes far more inclusive if there are pre-planned activities that guests can take part in. It offers guests fun experiences and points of interest to take part in and often helps boost any less-than-lively sit-down parties.
