A room for every season at Somerset House

A room for every season at Somerset House

Starlight Design, “rhubarb”, Rob Van Helden Floral Design and Over the Top Rentals worked together to host a lavish showcase event at Somerset House on 22nd October. The theme for the evening was inspired by the four seasons with each of the teams bringing their own unique vision and expertise to create an event that stimulated all of the senses.

Somerset House

The East Wing of Somerset House was converted into a dramatic setting with a room for each season. Spring featured a stunning table display complete with an Orchid tree, ornate floral linen and a bespoke table design by Starlight Design. Hire the barman created seasonal cocktails served in each of the rooms including a Cucumber Collins in spring whilst “rhubarb” served stylish canapés and bowl foods including Fricasse of gnocchi, peas, broad beans and new season savoury veloute in the room followed by a gourmet popcorn offer.

Summer included a floor turfed in grassy lawn and adorned with picnic baskets whilst the tailor made table design featuring vibrant linens, a stone candelabra, cracked pots with stunning pink flowers by Rob Van Helden and beautiful glassware formed the centre piece in the room. Bowls of Cornish crab with guacamole, citrus fruits and ginger jelly were served along with Clover Club cocktails.

Autumn imparted an intimate club like feeling with bespoke furniture, Chandelle chairs from Great Hire along with black draping, giant mirrors, retro cloth from Over the Top Rentals and fruit and vegetable trees. Pimms blackberry & lemonade along with Roast breast of chicken, squash, tenderstem broccoli and braised chicory were served.

Winter featured a unique liquid nitrogen stall with chefs preparing freshly made ice cream and desserts for guests. The centre piece in the room was a stunning revolving table with crystal William Yeoward vases and red flowers surrounding an exquisite tiered cake by Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium.  Red velvet clothes were draped on poseur tables and guests were served Venison haunch, choucroutte and celeriac with soused blackberries and Smoking Apple Pie cocktails.

Entertainment on the evening was provided by the sensational singer/songwriter Georgia Buchanan who is an up and coming star. She is currently completing her first album and plans to launch herself into the charts early next year with her catchy pop/RnB vocal melodies and distinctive production style.

Glen Sutton, Director of Events at “rhubarb” says “This was a fantastic opportunity to work with like minded companies to produce something that stimulated all of the senses. Our focus was on creating seasonal dishes that complemented each of the rooms.”
