Stand up comedy and summer parties
"You are so brave!" is the most frequent comment I received when I told everyone I was doing Stand Up Comedy for Charity. In reality, I am blessed (cursed) with having no fear and an unfortunate sense of invincibility. So, it was armed with these misconceptions that I roared onto the stage last night, in front of hundreds of City people, with Bon Jovi's 'Livin' on a Prayer' blasting through the PA system. My unscripted opening line "God, I'm a twat" was met with raucous laughter (amazingly!) and I was off... Having gone for an ambitious (and fairly lengthy) series of anecdotes (almost all true stories) I was true to form and meandered all over the place covering subjects from my days as the lead singer of Dazed & Confuzed (a band with too many 'Z's' in the name to be either grammatically correct or taken seriously) to my Bond style watch (which reveals some shocking and controversial facts) and even a joke about 'clubbing' one's wife! In hindsight, that last joke was a potentially fatal and ham-fisted gag, especially as my chosen charity was the wonderful ‘Womankind Worldwide’. But, somehow, it worked. Phew! If you want to see the evidence (oh yes, we filmed it all!) then please donate a few quid via my Justgiving page – www.justgiving.com/willbroome and I’ll send you the link to the (potentially embarrassing!) video next week (once the canned laughter has been added, of course!)
In other news this week, the new londonlaunch.com site continues to break new ground. With a huge influx of new and exciting enquiries (from three separate continents), more and more end-user interaction (reviews popping up all over the place), a massive social media reach and an excellent presence on Google for all sorts of event related phrases, our new infrastructure and core product is smashing all targets already! This is a great sign of things to come over the next six months. We’re even doing regular surveys and our recent ‘Great Summer Survey’ revealed that 55% of those who took part are currently planning a corporate summer event and, even more interestingly, 83% of those who aren’t say they could have their arm twisted if something good (and good value) came along – and that’s what londonlaunch.com is all about. There’s more choice and more value than ever before out there so check out our Be Inspired section and Event Calendar for some great ideas!
We’re also proud to be working alongside Lord Wei and the House of Lords for a hugely exciting event next year, called the ‘Chinese Dream Ball’. Lord Wei is pioneering an ambitious project with the Chinese to introduce and build relationships between business leaders in Britain and China, at the highest level. We are proud to be working on this project in an advisory capacity, recommending the venues, suppliers and project managers required to stage launch events, the Chinese Dream Ball itself and two festivals in 2014. Following a number of meetings in the House of Lords (one of the most beautiful series of event spaces in London) we’re well on the way to involving all sorts of londonlaunch.com approved suppliers in this high profile series.
We’re also in the midst of some very exciting (and often exclusive) showcase events. Next week sees the corporate launch of Alexeeva & Jones, the discerning ‘salon du chocolate’ specializing in luxury hand-made chocolates from the world’s leading chocolatiers. Our exclusive ‘Champagne & Chocolate’ evening at their Notting Hill headquarters is certainly a coveted invitation (for obvious reasons!). We then have our ‘Seaside in the City’ event in partnership with Late Night London, where the foot of the Gherkin Tower will become a beach for one night only next week, followed by a spectacular venue launch on the 10th July in King’s Cross – the secret is soon to be revealed.
Watch out for my debut Stand Up Comedy video courtesy of the magnificent videographer, Craig Murdoch, next week. I may look like an idiot, but it’s for a great cause!!!
