A Royal Night at Darbaar
We were invited to the new restaurant Darbaar by Abdul located in the city to experience the venue and the food. This restaurant is the first solo adventure for the award winning chef Abdul Yaseen who was a founding member of the well-known Cinnamon Group. Having been to Abdul’s previous restaurants we were excited to see what Darbaar had in store for us!
The restaurant is subtly tucked away in the city on Snowden Street with an unassuming door leading you inside, however, as you walk inside the elegance of this restaurant and the scale of it are striking. With its high ceilings and blue walls that are adorned with ornate wall hangings you can feel the royal inspiration that inspired this venue.
We were taken to our table that looked over the impressive open kitchen, so not only was Abdul cooking us for but we were able to watch it being done too! Our food soon arrived, accompanied by our huge appetite we dove straight into the wide range of dishes before us. The flavours were amazing, some of which I wouldn't normally choose but these worked perfectly and had us fighting over who would have the last piece of each dish! After demolishing six dishes we were bursting out of our trousers but still managed pudding, during which we were treated to a conversation with Abdul who came to make sure we had enjoyed ourselves!
For all the credentials Darbaar holds for it's food, this venue is more than a restaurant; with 4 individual spaces available for hire, they can cater for events from 10 to 220 people. The cocktail bar is the perfect room for a drinks party, with space for up to 90 people your guests can enjoy Darbaar’s array of fruity cocktails. The largest private dining room can hold up to 20 people, its design is in keeping with the style seen throughout Darbaar with natural light shining through the room feels light and spacious, it even has a wall stocked full of wine for your guests to peruse! This room also has a projector so whether you want it for a dinner or a meeting, this rooms flexibility can accommodate for any event.
The smallest of the spaces is the Chef’s table, which seats up to 12 people. This room gives you an intimate look into the kitchen and brings a personal experience to your event by allowing you to interact with the chefs. Finally, if you have a larger event you can also hire the whole venue exclusively for up to 220 people and create an event fit for royalty!
In our opinion Darbaar is a special place with lots of charm, whether you want to host a large event or just have a dinner for 2 this restaurant will make each experience unique. If it carries on this way then this restaurant is set for great things especially with Abdul at the helm. We can’t wait to come back for more!
