Moving Venue by Smart lets the food do the talking at Maison Champagne Taittinger

On 4th September 2015 Moving Venue by Smart, the event caterer specialising in the heritage and landmark venues market, headed to the capital of Champagne, Épernay, for an experience which will have a resounding impact on the company’s future ethos and products.

In a radical move, all 35 staff and senior management at parent company, Smart Group, were whisked across the channel to thrash out Moving Venue’s autumn/winter menus. The aim of the exercise was to establish a special steering group, headed up by executive head chef David Ridgway, to guide culinary direction going forward.

A cornerstone objective of the three-day experience was to strike a balance between customer and chef, ensuring that event managers are able to manage the expectations of the client against the ambition of the chef.

In the atmospheric surroundings of Maison Champagne Taittinger, the home of, arguably, the world’s most famous alcoholic drink, staff and management came together to look at various issues, including improve communication channels between different departments.

In this effervescent forum, the whole group literally flowed with new ideas on how Moving Venue’s food offerings could be more nuanced, assets could be better used and ensuring everyone remained client focused.

Commenting on the significance of the Épernay Experience, Richard Beggs, managing director of Moving Venue said: “The stunning backdrop of the Champagne region and the very generous hospitality of Maison Champagne Taittinger and Champagne André Clouet, provided ample inspiration. The incredible vintages and gastronomy of the region offering mouth-watering opportunities to innovate our approach.

He continued: “At the end of the day, it’s all about giving clients what they want as well as being sympathetic to the creative juices of our chefs and the facilitating role played by our event managers. After three days of intense discussion, with ideas flying around the room and robust conversation, we believe we have developed products which offer a win –win situation for all parties. We’ll let the food do the talking, and look forward to announcing the new menus in the coming weeks, showcasing the rich rewards of this experience.”

This event was only made possible through the strong partnership between Moving Venue and the company’s long-standing wine supplier, The Vintner.

Moving Venue’s winter menus will be released this autumn and available to corporate and private bookers across a range of event set-ups.
