Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition Preview Party 2015
Fisher Productions and the Giant Pineapple - Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition Preview Party 2015
This June for 10th year in a row Fisher Productions undertook production of the bars and courtyard for the prestigious RA Summer Exhibition Preview Party which opened the annual contemporary art exhibition.
This year’s exhibition has been co-ordinated by leading British artist and teacher Michael Craig-Martin RA and the party is the first chance to preview and buy works from the exhibition.
A highlight of the London social calendar, the event was attended by ‘names’ from the world of art, fashion, and music, including; Grayson Perry who was the chair of the party this year, Sir John Hurt, Actress Jaime Winstone, Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, Turner Prize winning artist Tracey Emin. Fashion Designer Henry Holland who did a DJ set in Gallery 3 and at the end of the evening songstress Jessie Ware gave a live performance in the courtyard.
Guests entered the party via the courtyard where two giant 5m high RA balloons that floated above a tangled zig-zagging maze of specially laid bright carpets that wove through the imposing sculpture and encouraged guests to interact. Fisher designed and created two drinks bars and 3 food stations within the galleries that provided pockets of reflection and colour. Gold disco tiles and bright mannequin hands formed countertops, and an oversized gold reflective pineapple dessert station revealed a patisserie-style display of desserts.
Rachel Rolfe Head of Creative at Fisher Productions said; “The creative direction behind the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Preview Party 2015 takes inspiration from the bright and bold themes delivered through this year’s curation. Fisher have realised this through a vivid colour scheme of 'super brights’ that reference many of the installations with a playful tone that brings surrealism into the bar designs. Using a palette of gold mirror and unexpected forms we created a tongue-in-cheek atmosphere that added an element of kitsch luxury.
Fisher worked collaboratively with the RA team to implement a scheme that complimented the artwork, respecting sightlines to create an impactful and playful party setting that the guests enjoyed.
The Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition is the world’s largest open-submission contemporary art exhibition, showcasing a variety of artworks by emerging and established artists curated alongside each other. Funds raised from the sale of the artwork continue to play a significant part in financing the current students of the RA Schools, the longest established art school in the UK, which offers the only free three-year postgraduate programme in Europe.
