Brother Marcus put on a Southern Mediterranean Inspired Supper Club

The Brother Marcus boys will be donning their aprons and returning to the kitchen to host their own supper club on the 16th and 17th November, at their Balham haunt. Following on from the success of their sell out series of supper clubs in collaboration with other residencies earlier in the year, the boys have created Smashing Plates, a six course Cretan inspired menu full of flavour and finesse.

Co-owner, Tasos, has raided his ancient Cretan family recipe book and created delectable dishes to create a southern Mediterranean menu separated into four of the Earth’s elements; Earth, Sea, Land and Heaven. Guests will begin with food from the Earth section including, Laguna Cretan bread with hazelnut dukkah and sesame; and spice roasted cauliflower kassundi with turmeric yoghurt followed by grilled octopus on a bed of yellow split pea puree with a pink peppercorn and shaved fennel salad topped with charcoal oil from the Sea. A tender confit pork belly with a Metaxa and date glaze, apple labneh and a sprinkling of walnuts and dates form Land. The fourth and final element makes it easy to believe in Heaven when it’s put in front of you on a plate, in the form of a sweet flaky orange baklava with pistachio ice cream.

To dampen the palette, the famously violent Cretan Shepherds have prepared a cocktail menu containing an assortment of cocktails including Mexata, a Greek spirit based on brandy blended with muscat wine from Spetses Island, and mountain tea. They boys have also shipped in some Greek wine for the occasion to pair with the food perfectly.

It’s well known that Cretan cuisine is a family affair so the Brother Marcus boys invite guests to bring all of their family and friends along for an enjoyable evening of traditional southern Mediterranean inspired dishes, cocktails and maybe some smashing plates.
